Grutas Tolantongo, located in Hidalgo, Mexico.

So this has to be one of the coolest places on the planet. Deep in the state if Hidalgo, Mex., hot springs flow out of the mountainside and form these beautiful waterfalls. Under the falls there is a tunnel and a grotto. The tunnel is about 6 feet in diameter and goes about 100′ into the mountain. Water spews from any crack or crevice and little pools as deep as 5′ form as you go back. The grotto is even more amazing. You enter under the falls and it opens up into a large space with little waterfalls flowing out of the walls that surround. There is one large, heavy waterfall coming out of the ceiling in the center, with a few minor ones out of the walls. All the water that comes out of the walls is hot. Inside the grotto there are more smaller caves you can swim into. All the water from the falls flow into a teal blue river that remains hot as it flows through the valley. You can set up camp right next to the river and have your own little section of hot spring river. Absolutely surreal.

Pictures can be found in our gallery. Do yourself a favor and put this on your list to see.

Just wanted to share a spot we just visited in northern Baja. Sierra de San Pedro Mártir National Park is about 5.5-6 hours from San Diego and is a cool national park amidst huge pine trees and the tallest mountains in the Baja peninsula. Its cheap to visit, super safe, and gorgeous. There are lots of large campsites, many with multiple fire pits. The campsites can fit like 15 people comfortably, and they even give you free wood for the fires.

There is lots of hiking all around the park, and the wildlife features one of very few places in the world where the North American Condor lives. There is a big observatory at the top of one of the mountains that they give tours of as well. Definitely a cool long weekend camping trip outside of San Diego, worth checking out.
